On Friday, September 24, second-year students from the Mathematical Inquiry Class of Honjo High School, Akita Prefecture, participated in a university–high school collaborative class at the Honjo Campus.
On the day, the students were divided into a physics group and a chemistry group to attend lectures and conduct experiments using the university’s facilities.
Physics Group
Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Abe (Department of Information Engineering), the students used university equipment to measure the thickness of human hair. Since the experimental apparatus can be very dangerous if used incorrectly, they worked carefully while paying attention to safety, engaging actively in group discussions throughout the experiment.
Chemistry Group
The students conducted an experiment to measure the concentration of ammonia in an aqueous solution. They also listened to Associate Professor Kawashima (Department of Management Systems Engineering) talk about his research activities and findings. The session seemed to leave a strong impression on them, highlighting the importance of investigating sources of environmental substances.
Thank you to all the students of the Mathematical Inquiry Class at Honjo High School for visiting us!
